Teddy Bear Foundation Gala Ball 2010

You needn’t worry if you felt the ground tremble one Saturday night in November……

It was only guests at the Teddy Bear Ball heading for the dance floor and an audience with the band who brilliantly re-create all the Abba anthems, Bjorn Again.

The scene was The Hilton Hotel in Glasgow, where management told us they had just experienced “the best night ever.”

Bjorn Again belted out all the old favourites, like “Dancing Queen” and “Mama Mia” to a highly-appreciative hall of 400 guests.

The room was luxuriously draped in the Teddy Bear colours of black and orange, providing a stunning backdrop to the night’s activities.

The evening kicked off with a dramatic display by The Fusion, a Glasgow-based dance troupe whose younger members received financial support from the charity for new outfits.

Jenny Chuwen provided a touching resume of the charity’s five-year history, receiving vocal support from many in the room.

Then, guests were treated to a magnificent four-course meal of Smoked Salmon, Medallions of Angus Beef followed by a delicious Black Forest Torte with a Kirsch Cherry Compote.

A series of films on DVD demonstrated the work of the charity through the last year before Channel Five presenter Jonny Gould began the serious part of the evening….raising money for the Teddy Bear’s vital work with special needs children.

Friends and supporters put up an astonishing array of auction items, including a full entertainment package at Take That’s concert in 2011, a gastronomic break at Gleneagles Hotel for eight guests and a luxury cruise on Loch Lomond.

Artist Craig Campbell pulled in one of the biggest sums of the evening, when a bidder paid £10,000 for his painting “Let the Children Play” which he kindly donated to the Foundation.

Then it was onto the dance floor for Bjorn Again and the brilliant Afro-clad singers of the ‘Soul Kings’.

Said Barry Chuwen:”I have to thank everyone who made the night such a brilliant success.

“People were having so much fun, a member of the hotel’s management said it was their best night ever.

“Now we need to start preparing to do it all again in 2011.”

Details of our 2011 Ball will be unveiled nearer the time.
