Teddy Bear Foundation Gala Ball 2009

As if from nowhere, the Teddy Bear Foundation has created one of the stellar nights of the Glasgow social scene.

The charity’s inaugural Teddy Bear Ball, held at the city’s Hilton Hotel, wowed 400 guests who had  bought a table.

From the very point of entering the room, it became clear that this was to be no ordinary night.  Tables were lavishly dressed in back and orange – the Teddy Bear colours – topped off with ornate candelabras and floral displays.

The room was later transformed into a “Boogie Wonderland” as tribute band Ultimate Earth Wind and Fire romped through a brilliant set that filled the dance floor.

Before that, the guests were entertained by Irish comic Jason Byrne and well-know local celebrity, Andy Cameron.

Andy also conducted the successful auction, which saw generous donors snap up everything from Ferrari driving courses to luxury golf trips to Ireland.  It was clear that the charity was enjoying the support of the west of Scotland business community.

Teddy Bear Foundation co-founder Jenny Chuwen provided a touching insight into the work of the charity, backed-up by a moving DVD presentation starring the children themselves.

And at the end of the night, husband Barry revealed that as a result of all the fund-raising efforts during the evening, a staggering £100,000 had been raised.

This will be used to fund the charity’s vital work among special needs kids in Scotland through 2010.

As for next year?  Well, we plan to do it all again next December!  Details to follow…….and thanks to everyone who made November 21 such a thumping success.
