Our Stories - Limo Girl, Katie

Three-year-old Katie Coull is a huge fan of the TV programme “Me, Too” which features a lady driving a pink taxi.

Whenever she was out and about in her home town of Aberdeen, she would squeal with delight when she caught sight of a giant pink limo.

“Tina’s Taxi” Katie would shout, believing that the big vehicle had shot straight from her favourite Cbeebies show.

Just after her third birthday, wee Katie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, which means that her pancreas no longer produces insulin.

Doctors believe a string of viral infections early in her life had caused her body to turn on itself.

Whatever the reason, the condition meant that the tot now needs injections of insulin twice a day. She can suffer up to 10 finger prick tests a day; and she never complains.

“She’s had a tough year,” explained proud mum, Catherine Coull. “But she takes everything in her stride.”
Catherine turned to the Teddy Bear Foundation in the hope of laying on a treat for the little heroine from the Granite City.

She knew exactly what would give her little girl a lift.

And, in what must be the charity’s most unusual donation yet, it paid for Katie to be whisked around Aberdeen in the big pink limo she adores.

“She was so excited,” said Catherine. “It came with ‘High School Musical’ on the side, which is another of her favourite programmes.

“We can’t thank the Teddy Bear Foundation enough. She had a brilliant day.”
